About Us

Kidzillions

We are a Philadelphia-based startup company that seeks to provide value to families by helping kids learn valuable financial skills.

Many parents aren't comfortable talking about money with their kids - or expect that great money skills come with maturity and are simply a fact of growing up. But we believe good money skills are about habits, trial and error, first-hand learning and accountability.

There's no such thing as normal when it comes to allowance. Every family does it differently and Kidzillions was designed to provide an easy solution for the variety of ways that families operate. Whether allowance is chore based, whether bonus opportunities are available and whether rewards are even monetary is decided individually by each family. What we offer is the ability to automate the process and keep track, helping parents be consistent so kids can learn the lessons they're hoping to teach with allowance.

Kidzillions was founded by Kendra Gaeta, whose past work in interactive marketing, non-profit management and child care come together perfectly in this project. (If there was a way she could involve horseback riding in this somehow, she would be GOLDEN!)

Kidzillions is proud to have participated in the 2009 cycle of the DreamIt Ventures summer program.

Kidzillions is a platform designed to help families establish a routine and stick to it. Kids love it because they're in control. It's not a game, it's not a simulation. Parents love it because it's so simple and their kids learn such important lessons.

At my house we didn't do allowance, but there were always extra chores, in addition to my standard household duties, I could do around the house for pocket money. I enjoyed making the money. I enjoyed saving the money. I enjoyed counting the money and planning how I would spend the money. I was allowed to buy anything I wanted with that cash and I routinely loaned money to my teenage sisters who didn't mind paying me back, plus interest.

Being smart with money made me feel proud. I never thought of it then, but I have thought a lot about it since: The pride that I felt being responsible for this part of my world helped make me smart with money. Today I see money as a tool, I'm not (too) distracted by fads or gadgets and my sense of money is a skill I use in my work every single day. I have great credit, too, if anyone's keeping track.

Kidzillions makes tools that encourage:

  • Personal Accountability
  • Financial Responsibility
  • Civic Mindedness

I believe these core values will help kids to grow up feeling empowered and beholden to make positive changes in the world. This we could use more of, and so with the help of my co-founders we bring you Kidzillions. Try it out and please let me know what you think.
